“If it were easy, they’d call it baseball!”
Solebury softball is for every girl who yearns for friendship,
teamwork, vigorous play, and the joy of doing hard things well.
From beginners to future all-stars, players of all abilities are welcome to join us. We field teams in area leagues at the 8-and-under, 10-and-under, 12-and-under, and 15-and-under levels in the spring and fall. Our teams are not “travel” or “select” clubs for advanced-skill players (although many of our players participate on such teams). Instead, ours are instructional and recreational teams organized to impart the rudiments, mechanics, and what a philosopher called the “inner geometry” of the game—including the classic example of learning to discern and relish what’s happening in a softball game when nothing seems to be happening! (Hint: there is a lot, but the eye and mind have to be trained to understand and enjoy it.)
Yogi Berra said the great thing about Little League was that “it gets kids out of the house and keeps parents off the streets”, and in that regard, Solebury softball depends for its success on parents being a big part of the action, whether coaching, prepping the fields, selling the snacks, or cheering on our teams and our opponents (that’s right; we cheer for all the girls!).
While our teams have won championships, every girl gets the chance to play, whether we’re winning or losing. Come what may, we strive to impart an enduring love for this most difficult of games. Join us, and together we will learn to cherish the sweet, sweet music of well-struck softballs whistling in the Solebury sunshine . . . but only if the girls first learn to swing the bat and hit the ball!
